CopySafe PDF The universal solution for the distribution of copy protected documents and images.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does CopySafe PDF Reader security compare with similar applications?

There are many applications offering protection from screen capture that are affective but only when known screen capture softwares are used. They are NOT protected from ALL screen capture as they rely on being able to detect the application by name, which means that should anyone use an application not on their list or simply rename the application then the protection is foiled. In contrast the CopySafe runtime provides total control over the resources used by ALL screen capture and video capture.

Whereas similar applications use a wrapper to secure documents that use Adobe Reader or Ghost Script PDF engines, CopySafe PDF documents are encrypted using full strength encryption (128 bit MD5 & RC4 algorithms) which can only be opened using the unique CopySafe PDF engine.

Can Copysafe PDF prevent users from screen capture when using remote viewing applications?

Yes. When a Copysafe PDF document is being opened on a computer that is enabled for remote viewing by commonly used remote applications, the document cannot be opened. For clients requiring that remote viewing is possible, it can be enabled by selecting the appropriate option at the time of conversion.

Can CopySafe protected PDF documents be viewed in other PDF readers?

Copysafe PDF documents can only be opened using the Copysafe PDF Reader. The key to CopySafe PDF security is that documents cannot be read in other viewers and therefore cannot be converted back to their original form by using one of the numerous applications available today.

Should the CopySafe PDF Reader be distributed with my copy protected PDF documents?

Providing the reader is not necessary when distributing singular CopySafe PDF protected documents to end users for the first time. In these cases you can convert the PDF with reader support embedded into the document which will automatically install the CopySafe PDF engine when not found on the end user's computer.

However if distributing many CopySafe PDF documents or distributing to end users on a regular basis, then it is most recommended that you convert your documents as library files (ENC) and provide a link to the CopySafe PDF Reader, thus reducing the size of your CopySafe PDF libraries by about 3 Mb.

Does a PDF increase in file size when converted to CopySafe PDF format?

Not unless using the embedded installer option which includes an installer on demand for when reader support is not found. Otherwise CopySafe PDF documents converted as library files (ENC) will be about the same size as the original.

Are existing security features in my PDFs maintained when converted?

Yes. Any existing security features such as password, expiration and watermarking are maintained in the Copysafe PDF document, and any new security features added by Copysafe PDF will be additional to the original features.

Can CopySafe PDF viewing be restricted to individual users?

To properly enforce individual user rights to view your documents you need to use CopySafe PDF from within ArtistScope Digital Rights Management which provides total control where other applications fail. Copysafe PDF provides the best protection available from all copying including screen capture, however the documents can be redistributed without restriction and all copies are likewise protected as the original.

Can a limit be enforced on the number of times a CopySafe PDF is viewed or printed?

Yes. When published via ArtistScope DRM your CopySafe PDF documents can be limited to view and print that can never be exploited. ArtistScope DRM offers total control that can be varied at any time from anywhere.
